Hi, I offer a confidential counselling service and have a private practice based in the centre of Beverley. I can also offer appointments at my office in Hull (off Anlaby Road, opposite Hull Royal Infirmary). Please telephone for further details and for an informal chat. If you are too shy to phone, send me a text or an email and I will reply as soon as I am able too!
I have over 20 years counselling experience. I trained and qualified as a counsellor and psychosexual therapist with Relate Hull & East Riding, and I am currently a Trainer with Relate, delivering courses on Counselling Skills and personal development to the public and private sectors.
Having had some counselling myself, I am of the strong opinion that it is important to feel completely comfortable and at ease with the counsellor whom you choose to let into your very private world, and it is for this reason that I offer a first half hour session free of charge. That way it gives us both an opportunity to meet and to decide whether we would feel comfortable working with each other.
If you have some knowledge of counselling, I work in a very eclectic way. I work from Egan’s 3 Stage Model, where we Explore the problem together, and then come to an Understanding as to why you are experiencing difficulties at this time and then look to taking some Action to overcome the problem.
The way we do this will depend on your needs, everyone is different and unique. I am always ‘person centred’. In some cases I will work in a psychodynamic way, which is looking into your childhood. In other cases we may work in a behavioural way – looking at how and why you do what you do and helping to do things differently. Other therories I work with are Family Systems, Object Relations, Attachment Theory, TA (Transactional Analysis) and I will always work with and address any transferences – If none of this makes any sense don’t worry about it! Basically I will be there for you to listen to your problems, and help you, to the very best of my ability, to help you move forward, through what is probably a very difficult period in your life.
I have regular supervision, both individually and also in a group, working within BACP’s guidelines for ongoing professional development.
I look forward to welcoming you as a client and to working with you in the long or short term.
With Warmest Regards,
